Sr Traffic Control Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and coordinating flagger activities for telecommunications construction work.
  • Placing, removing, and repairing temporary and permanent traffic control devices.
  • Coordinating and supervising traffic flaggers in construction areas.
  • Managing time and administrative functions for direct reports.
  • Complying with all organizational and regulatory safety standards.
  • Inspecting traffic control devices for functionality, placement, and safety compliance.
  • Managing direction of traffic using signs, paddles, hand gestures, radios, and/or verbal communication.
  • Maintaining a focus on safety throughout all job functions.
  • Managing day-to-day work zone set up, maintenance, and tear down.
  • Lifting, carrying, and placing up to 50 lbs. of traffic cones and traffic control signs.
  • Keeping equipment in trucks organized and in working order.
  • Directing movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand, and flag signals.
  • Warning laborers and drivers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
  • Informing drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
  • Recording license number of traffic control violators for police.
  • Giving a hand marker to the last driver in the lineup of one-way traffic for the flagger at the opposite end of the site, signaling clearance for the reverse flow of traffic.
  • Writing and reviewing maintenance and incident reports for on-site issues or concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Safety is a part of your day to day.
  • Understanding of all phases of telecom construction.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of relevant experience in a supervisory role.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex and detailed construction and traffic control plans.
  • Ability to effectively present and direct detailed instructions to team members in small groups.
  • Ability to perform and understand fundamental mathematical problems.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Valid Flagger Certification.
  • Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control.
  • Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) guidelines.
  • Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites.
  • 500 hours experience in traffic control flagging.
  • Basic understanding of construction job sites.

Compensation: You will be paid between $25-28/HR, based on experience. Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek. Rest and Meal Breaks: You will be compensated for paid rest periods and granted unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws.
