Job Description

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection (TGFD) is seeking a Texas Field Service Engineer in the Houston area to perform maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting of TGFD equipment, and other brands if possible, as long as the electrical characteristics of these other brands are compatible with our control panels at our customer's sites, according to the prescribed safety, quality, and timing standards. If the equipment is not repairable, then propose replacement TGFD instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage your schedule independently, from booking appointments to carrying out the services needed, updating the shared Outlook calendar while respecting service deadlines, customer requirements, and optimizing travel.
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance operations at our customer's sites, adhering to customer-specific requirements: from preparation ahead of the visit (parts, gas, safety reception...) to writing and sending the service report.
  • Ensure proper management of your stock: inventory, placing orders for parts considering delivery times, handling waste (requesting authorization for parts removal), and collecting and disposing of waste according to company instructions.
  • Promote the company and its products to our customers by acting as a true brand ambassador; promote maintenance contracts to build customer loyalty and provide advice to our customers during the commissioning of gas detection installations.
  • Record activity-related data in IT tools: placing parts orders, completing debriefs in the ERP, calibration certificates, keeping the equipment database installed up to date for customers.
  • Timely response to daily requests from management, colleagues, as well as customers.
  • Carry out work activities by applying all Safety rules set by our company and required by customer sites: strong safety culture, participate in on-site safety audits, maintain certifications, risk assessments at customer sites before services, tool review including mandatory periodic checks, report any accident, near-miss, or hazardous situation to the customer and the company through the established process, participate in safety briefings, and wear personal protective equipment.
  • When needed, provide technical support and training to customers and peers.
Competencies
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Knowledge of Industrial Gas & Flame Detections systems based on control panels, PLC/DCS interfaces, alarming logic along with IR & UV in flame detectors as well as gas detection.
  • Strong knowledge of test equipment - Demonstrates working knowledge of multimeters, manometers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and FET-MSP programmers.
  • Troubleshooting- Quickly able to diagnose faults caused by numerous conditions such as heat, dust, vibration in order to clearly communicate an instrument's status coupled with risk and actions in order to communicate properly to maintenance teams, operators, and supervisors at a Industrial facility.
  • Oral/Written Communication - Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Records data; Writes clearly and informatively; Able to read and interpret written information, such as, electrical plans and diagrams.

Understanding of safety compliance in following site specific guidelines, understands hazardous area classifications (Zone 0/1/2 or Class 1 Div 1 & 2) and complies with standards such as IEC, NFPA, OSHA, DISA along with any other regulations within an industrial facility.

Responsibility and Autonomy
  • Contributes to the development of service activity (proposal of service agreements) and customer satisfaction in their area
  • Responsible for maintaining their vehicle in terms of safety (maintenance carried out on time, tires, etc.) and quality (internal and external cleanliness)
  • Makes decisions on customer sites to solve problems, may seek advice and approval from the technical support and direct manager when they believe the proposed solution will not be sustainable or when faced with a significant Quality issue
  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
