Trinnex is seeking an entry-level Accountant to support financial analysis and rate studies for municipal and authority-owned water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities. This position is well-suited for a recent accounting, finance, or economics graduate with strong analytical skills and an interest in public-sector finance, infrastructure, and utility economics.
The Accountant I will work under the supervision of senior financial analysts and project managers to develop financial models, analyze utility revenues and expenses, support cost-of-service and rate design analyses, and assist with technical memoranda and client deliverables.

***This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence 2-3 days per week in either our Boston or East Hartford office. ****

Key Responsibilities
• Support water, wastewater, and stormwater rate studies, bond feasibility studies, financial strategic planning and related including revenue requirement analyses, cost allocation, and rate design.
• Compile, organize, and analyze utility financial data, including operating budgets, capital improvement plans, debt schedules, and historical financial statements.
• Assist in developing and maintaining financial models (primarily Excel-based) to evaluate rate impacts, affordability metrics, and long-term financial sustainability.
• Perform data validation and QA/QC on financial inputs, assumptions, and outputs.
• Prepare tables, figures, and draft narrative sections for technical memoranda, reports, and presentations.
• Assist with benchmarking and comparative analyses across utilities and regions.
• Coordinate with project team members to track data requests and support client communications.
• Maintain organized electronic project files in accordance with internal QA/QC procedures.
• Perform other analytical and administrative tasks as assigned in support of project delivery.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
• Internship, coursework, or project experience related to: Public finance, utility finance, or governmental accounting; Cost-of-service studies or rate analysis; Budgeting, forecasting, or financial planning.
• Exposure to data visualization or financial analysis tools beyond Excel (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, R, Python) is a plus but not required.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong quantitative, organizational and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with basic accounting principles (e.g., fund accounting, depreciation, debt service).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (formulas, logical functions, data organization; exposure to pivot tables and basic financial modeling preferred).
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to identify problems and potential solutions proactively
• Interest in public-sector finance, utilities, infrastructure, or municipal services.
