Description

Layout, Fit, and Fabricate Structural and miscellaneous steel members in accordance to Job Specifications, Drawings, applicable Code requirements, and company expectations. Use trade knowledge, personnel skill set, and company resources and assets to interpret and define job requirements and gain mandatory approval for work operations where procedural information is unavailable. Maintain an exemplary employee reputation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Maintain Professional conduct, Punctual attendance, dependability, and respect of shop schedules.
• Consistently use required PPE and apply Safe practices according to company policy and industry standard at all times on SME property.
• Recognize and addresses safety hazards in all process applications. Report any and all safety hazards to the supervisor or management immediately.
• Be organized, coordinated, and Maintain a reasonably clean work area and positive attitude.
• Physical ability to perform task requirements and work extended hours in a physically demanding environment.

• Read and interpret Shop and Engineered drawing & specifications.
• Study and apply Job Specifications, Company, and Code standards as required with minimal assistance.
• Measure, Layout, Cut, Assemble, Secure, and Weld as needed and allocate time saving tasks to other employees aiding in fabrication.
• Inspect work and assure quality requirements are met.
• Capable of continually meeting and/or exceeding shop expectations.
• Continual pursuit of self and process improvement.
• Work well with others and know the location of people and equipment in the surrounding area.
• Inspect and resolve or report equipment issues as they occur.
• Safe use of personal and company equipment.
• Confront personnel and work issues in a professional manner.
• Mentor and advise other employees when requested.
• Moves structural elements by hand and machine through the use of chain rigging, overhead/jib crane, material conveyor, or transfer stations and other material handling equipment.
• Inspects equipment, structural components, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
• Accurately straightens and cambers with heat.
• Other duties that may be assigned.

• Able to adapt to a changing environment and a willingness to teach and learn.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to lift at least 65lbs. and understand when to utilize mechanical means of material handling to minimize personal risk.
• Reach the highest level of shop welding Certification.
• Own the majority of necessary hand tools for the job.
• Understand the accessibility, function, and operating procedures of SME Shop tools and equipment. (I.e. Welders, Torches, Etc.)
• Inspect for defects and Safely operate necessary Shop equipment, (I.e. Overhead Cranes, Jib Cranes, & Material Carts or conveyers, Etc.)
• Solid understanding of trade mathematics.
• Ability to accurately read, understand, and apply the requirements of Shop and/or Engineered drawings with minimal question.
• Recognize and communicate Detailing errors to Lead personnel when discovered on Drawings/Plans.
• Positively Identify Material Type, Grade, and Welding electrode/Wire requirements.
• Clear understanding of (WPS's), Welding Procedure Specifications, their use, and maintain parameter specifications as required.
• Understand Shop tolerances and their application to SME products.
• Continually provide acceptable quality of work and maintain a basic understanding of Code standard and Shop Visual Weld acceptance criteria. (I.e. AWS D1.1, Table 6.1)
• Trusted to perform the first Dimensional and/or Weld Quality Verification Inspection on personal work as required and on the work of other employees as needed.
• Capable of complete fabrication of simple and/or complex structural steel components with minimal to no questions.
• Attention to detail, work well, and coordinate task operations with other employees as needed to complete the fabrication of SME products.
