JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).

Minimum Work Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Required Licenses / Certifications: Sterile Processing certification strongly preferred. Idaho Driver's License.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Language skills: to be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Reasoning ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for biological and chemical monitoring, charges, sterilization, autoclaves, and cleaning, processing and stocking instruments and supplies. Assists in controlling nosocomial hospital-acquired infections by providing a well-organized collection and decontamination service for all of the contaminated material from the departments in the hospital that are involved in direct patient care. Provide all necessary sterile and clean medical supplies and equipment for patient care to all of the departments in the hospital involved in direct patient care. To establish and maintain an acceptable standard of aseptic techniques in the handling and processing of all material used in patient care. To centralize decontamination and sterilization of all items used by departments involved in patient care. To deliver/receive sterile and contaminated instruments to all BMH associated facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Processes and distributes disposable and reusable medical /surgical supplies in accordance with departmental and Hospital policies and procedures. Participates in maintaining proper inventory levels of supplies. Maintains current knowledge/certification and pursues professional growth and development. Demonstrates a clear understanding of all sterilization control measures. Performs all assigned duties while in decontamination area. Performs all assigned duties while in assembly/packaging area. Checks daily and rotates stock to minimize waste. Deliver instruments to BMH associated facilities.
