Overview

Principal Systems Engineer II (Unix/Linux) Pocatello, ID. The contractor is responsible for the design, deployment, testing, certification, patching, and addressing interoperability issues for the base operating system as well as all support libraries, components, and application dependencies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the advanced knowledge expert for all Linux environments.
  • Create and maintain bare-metal and virtual machines with appropriate Linux distributions and network configuration using tools such as Satellite Server, Ansible, and BigFix.
  • Provision and configure required software onto servers, including web servers and databases.
  • Evaluate, improve, and maintain information security across the Linux infrastructure.
  • Monitor and resolve server issues and performance bottlenecks; manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge in DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SMTP, and Windows integration to solve technical and functional issues.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Proactively ensure high levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Monitor and test application performance for bottlenecks; work with developers to implement fixes.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
  • Build baselines with security and access controls, including DISA STIGs; update baselines quarterly and deploy new versions within 90 days of release.
  • Engineer multi-factor authentication between Linux environments and Windows components.
  • Engineer solutions for standalone, domain, and integrated modes for all classification levels and enclaves.
  • Collaborate with developers to transition applications between physical, virtual, and cloud platforms.
  • Work with security teams to resolve findings and apply fixes to achieve closure.
  • Liaise with vendors and IT staff for problem resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for all systems, including inventory, patch levels, hostnames, IPs, cores, processors, admin passwords, certificates, and service accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Integrate systems with Windows for authentication and core services dependencies; implement multi-factor authentication with FBI-standard software/hardware where applicable.
  • Document system configurations, including passwords, access controls, version numbers, patch levels, and inventory details.

Continually transition knowledge to Government staff through training and assistance using industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Current Top-Secret Clearance with ability to obtain SCI/CI-Poly if needed to meet contract requirements.
  • Minimum of RHCSA or higher certification.
  • 8+ years of experience.
  • Systems Engineer skill set focused on Unix/Linux (e.g., Red Hat Linux, Oracle Linux).

Desired Skills

  • Bachelors degree (preferred).
