Function as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for pre-analytical specimen preparation and processing; embedding, microtomy, and maintaining the equipment under the direction of Histology/ Pathology department leadership, Pathologist, or designee. Perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist. Performs specimen fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC analysis within the scope of practice, training, and skills. Adheres to laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Evaluates specimens and test requests for appropriateness. Documents appropriate information into the laboratory information system. Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students, or interns, including lectures and bench techniques.
