SUMMARY Environmental Management, Inc. (EMI), a company within the BSNC family, is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our team as a Hazardous Building Materials and Industrial Hygiene Technician. EMI is a leading environmental consulting firm committed to providing exceptional service to our clients while promoting sustainable practices and protecting the environment. The Hazardous Building Materials and Industrial Hygiene Technician will perform field investigations and sampling for asbestos, lead, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mercury, silica, and other regulated materials or contaminants. As part of their role, they will conduct air monitoring during abatement activities involving hazardous and regulated materials; complete indoor air quality and mold assessments; will operate pumps, real-time dust meters, and other sampling equipment. Duties will include preparing field notes, sketches, and sample location maps; completing chain-of-custody documentation; assisting with data interpretation and report preparation; and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. The technician will support project managers with scoping, scheduling, and cost estimates and may serve as Project Monitor overseeing contractor compliance during hazardous material abatement. This is an hourly position based on a 40-hour workweek and is overtime eligible. The employee will be compensated for hours worked beyond 40 per week in accordance with applicable overtime regulations, provided such work is approved in advance by a supervisor. This position will require travel throughout Alaska and the contiguous United States in support of projects with field assignments that may extend for multiple weeks. Most assignments will last less than one week, though longer travel periods may occasionally be necessary. Night and weekend work may also be required on occasion. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct hazardous building materials surveys (HBMS) for asbestos, lead, PCBs, and other hazardous materials Perform industrial hygiene monitoring for airborne contaminants, occupational noise, and other workplace hazards; conduct mold assessments and develop remediation designs; and provide other related IH services Assist in preparing proposals, creating work plans, conducting fieldwork as needed, documenting and reporting field activities, coordinating with regulatory agencies, communicating with clients, preparing technical reports, and offering technical support Demonstrate professional communication skills—oral, written, digital, and visual—to effectively collaborate with project teams, regulatory agencies, and clients Ensure the delivery of high-quality work products that meet or exceed industry standards Stay current on industry trends and best practices through ongoing training, professional publications, and workshops Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Experience, Education, and Certification High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) At least 3 years of experience in hazardous materials abatement, testing and/or consultation (asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, PCB, etc.) Experience performing occupational exposure assessments including, but not limited to, asbestos air monitoring, hazardous atmosphere monitoring, and other hazard monitoring Experience developing reports and cost proposals Location and Commitments Onsite, in-person position at our Anchorage office. Able to travel and work in the field as needed, with exposure to outdoor elements. Willingness to perform overtime and weekend work to ensure on-time deliverables. Able to lift weights up to 50 pounds. Legally authorized to work in the US; no visa sponsorship is offered for this position. Be able to access military or other government facilities. NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The position requires the ability to traverse uneven terrain for extended periods, work in varying weather conditions, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Applicants must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, and obtain medical clearance for respirator use. Some office duties are required and involve periods of sitting at a computer with opportunities to move about. Essential and marginal functions may require extended periods of bending, stooping, walking, or standing. DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding the Department of Transportation's "safety-sensitive" functions. WORK ENVIRONMENT The position is primarily field based and involves firsthand data collection and environmental monitoring in remote locations and varied weather conditions. Some assignments require entry into regulated areas where hazardous substances may be present, necessitating the use of PPE such as respirators and protective suits. Occasional office work is required for report preparation and data management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • Not a supervisory position. ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS As a condition of employment, the applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results.
