Job Description

This is a promotional opportunity that is reserved for full-time ISU employees.

Perform installation, troubleshooting and implementation of Local Area Networking, Wide Area Networking, Wireless Local Area Networking, Voice over IP Telecommunications Systems, CCTV and Access Systems, and associated infrastructure on ISU campuses.

This position will plan, organize, and supervise the daily activities of the student workforce and Network Administrators. Provide oversight and inspection of work performed by contractors installing or maintaining network infrastructure on all campus locations. Assist Network Engineers in the design, development, and installation of network infrastructures, systems, and projects

Key Responsibilities

Perform tasks related to the design, installation, maintenance and integration of transport media and related equipment to include copper and fiber optic plant facilities:

  • Train and supervise Network Administrators in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the campus network infrastructure, including, but not limited to, copper, fiber optic, and wireless infrastructures, ensuring BICSI standards are followed, and documentation is maintained.
  • Train and supervise student employees in installation of campus network cable plant, following BICSI standards.
  • Work in a team setting, contributing to the operational, strategic planning, and business continuity/disaster recovery solutions for the enterprise network system.
  • Perform analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, security, and optimization of network infrastructure, inclusive of LAN/WAN, wired, and wireless and associated infrastructure.
  • Work directly with ITS Networking and Communications customers in resolving network issues and concerns in a comprehensive, timely, and effective manner, providing exceptional customer focused support.
  • Shared 24x7 on-call and after hours ITS Infrastructure installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Configuration management and change control of network infrastructure including routers, Catalyst switches, Packet Shapers, Firewalls and IDS/IPS.
  • Manage all aspects of network security (load balancers, firewalls).
  • Administration of switches, configuration of firewalls, set-up of VPN connections, administration of load balancer systems.
  • Design and installation of LAN and WAN infrastructure.
  • Plan, design, install and maintain networks and servers in support of Information Systems.
  • Analyze equipment performance to determine the need for repair or replacement.
  • Shared 24x7 on-call and after-hours ITS Infrastructure installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

This is a promotional opportunity that is reserved for full-time ISU employees.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology filed with at least one (1) year full time hands-on experience OR Technical Degree/Certification in Telecommunications/Networking, or related field with at least three (3) years full time hands-on experience OR at least six (6) years full-time hands-on experience
  • Clear understanding of networking and telecommunications concepts, principles, applications, protocols, design, configuration, installations, and system management of routers, switches, network operating systems, servers, VPNs, etc. in a converged LAN/WAN/WLAN/Voip environment
  • Experience in, and a clear understanding of, network maintenance procedures, equipment analysis, evaluation, testing and consulting
  • Experience with copper, fiber optics and wireless infrastructures
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cisco CCNA certification
  • Experience designing, installing, monitoring, configuring, and managing network servers, applications and storage
Additional Information

Salary will be between $61,000 - $61,500 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
